ORTHODONTICS ADHESIVES |
| Abstract: |
In this paper the bond strength of the bracket and tooth surface is defined with regard to suitability for clinical practice and different factors described which could have an effect on it. As moisture is the most frequent cause of debonding of the bracket, its effect is discussed on new adhesive systems: conventional, hydrophilic and self-etching. The bond strength of certain systems is compared in dry conditions and under the influence of water and saliva applied to the surface of the enamel during different phases of bracket bonding in in vitro conditions. Their efficacy is then compared in clinical conditions. The specificity of contamination by saliva and blood and the effect of blood on bond strength when using different systems are pointed out. |

ADHESIVES DENTIN-BONDING AGENTS SENSITIVITY AND SPECIFICITY PAIN, POSTOPERATIVE |
| Abstract: |
Increasing requirements for the longevity of filling and marginal integration has influenced the development of new materials in restorative procedure on enamel and dentine. These requirements have contributed to the development of several generations of composite materials and dentine adhesives. Adhesion of the restorative material on the enamel is succesfully enhanced with the use of enamel adhesives, while bonding to dentine, because of its specific constitution and wetness of its surface, is not always acceptable and longlasting. The latest generation of dentine adhesives shows better bonding values, better sealing of the dentine surface and is simpler to handle than earlier generations of dentine adhesives. The aim of this study was to determine in 453 small medium and deep cavities the clinical existence of postrestorative sensitivity after the application of “Excite” one-bottle enamel-dentine adhesive under a composite resin filling one and three months after the application of the composite filling. After one month 21 teeth showed sensitivity of 1st, 2nd and 3th degree, and after three months only four teeth showed sensitivity of 1st and 2nd degree. This confirmed the fact that “Excite” enamel-dentine adhesive can successfully decrease the presence of postrestorative sensitivity. |

ADHESIVES TENSILE STRENGHT SHEAR STRENGTH |
| Abstract: |
Introduction of new dentine bonding agents in a practice of dentistry, variety of results on their crucial characteristics in foreign literature and lack of information in our literature led to a necessity to conduct own scientific research on dentine adhesives in order to facilitate the choice of available products. The purpose of this study was to estimate the adhesive strength of different dentine bonding agents to a treated human dentine immediately after light curing of a compatible composite material. Shear and tensile bond strength of Tripton, Gluma, Scotchbond-2 and Dentin Protector was measured. Control material was glass-ionomer base-cement Vitrabond. Human extracted premolars from both jaws were prepared to a flat surface from either occlusal or buccal aspect, and materials were applied, respectively. The results showed: a) values of shear bond strength ranged from 2.01-3.92 MPa with no statistical differences between tested systems; b) tensile bond strength varied from 13.7-26-84 MPa; the highest value showed Scotchbond-2, following by Gluma, but significantly lower values showed Tripton and Dentin Protector; c) the aspect of prepared tooth crown had no significant effect on bond strength with the exception of shear bond strength for Gluma-system, when applied on buccal surface showed significantly higher values than applied occlusally; d) dentine-bonding agents which dissolve smear layer with acid components and remove it from prepared dentine surface showed stronger adhesion than agents which leave this debris on a dentin surface. |
