BICUSPID TOOTH FRACTURE ROOT CANAL FILLING MATERIALS DENTIN-BONDING AGENTS COMPOSITE RESINS |
| Abstract: |
Objective: The aim was to study and compare the fracture resistance of root-filled premolar teeth restored with various dentin bonding adhesives (DBAs). Material and Methods: Eighty extracted single-rooted human maxillary premolar teeth were randomly assigned to eight groups (n=10). Group 1 (control) did not receive any preparation. From groups 2 to 8, the teeth were root filled and MOD cavities were prepared. Group 2 remained unrestored. Groups 3-8 were restored using the following DBAs: iBond (Heraeus Kulzer), G-Bond (GC Co.), Xeno III (Dentsply/Caulk), AdheSe (Ivoclar Vivadent), Clearfil Protect Bond (Kuraray) and Clearfil Tri-S Bond (Kuraray); all preparations were further restored with a resin composite (Renew, Bisco). All specimens were then stored in 100% humidity at 37 ºC for 24 h, followed by thermal cycling 500 times between 5° and 55 °C. Compressive loading of the teeth was performed by a universal testing machine at a crosshead speed of 1 mm min-1 until failure. The data were recorded in Newton (N) and were submitted to one-way ANOVA and Tukey post-hoc test. Results: The mean loads necessary to fracture the samples in each group were: group 1: 984.00 ± 116.27a, group 2: 167.30 ± 47.26b, group 3: 872.30 ± 164.99a, group 4: 848.70 ± 157.84a, group 5: 916.30 ± 246.19a, group 6: 863.20 ± 197.69a, group 7: 802.20 ± 183.84a, group 8: 870.70 ± 126.48a. Similar letters indicate statistically similar values (P>0.05). Conclusion: The type of DBAs had no influence on the fracture resistance of teeth. |

BICUSPID INCISOR TRANSPLANTATION TOOTH INJURIES + therapy |
| Abstract: |
Autotransplantation of premolars to replace lost maxillary incisors in young patients can ensure restoration of normal function and aesthetics. However, there is a need to evaluate the function and aesthetic appearance of the transplanted teeth after a long period. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the success of treatment and aesthetic appearance of transplanted premolars after follow-up of 9 to 13 years. The intention was also to assess whether the transplantation procedure can give predictable functional and aesthetic results after long-term intraoral use. The study was performed on 10 patients with teeth transplanted to the position of the upper central incisors. At the time of transplantation the patients were aged between 9 and 14 years (mean 12 years). They were all treated in the Department of Paediatric Dentistry, School of Dental Medicine. After transplantation all the teeth were immobilised with a wire-composite splint for two weeks, and reshaped with composite after three months. The reshaped teeth were compared with the contralateral incisors with regard to morphology, colour and overall aesthetics. Follow-up of the treatment ranged from 9 to 13 years (average 10.5 years). Transplantation outcome was assessed on the basis of clinical, radiographic and aesthetic criteria. Patients were given a visual analogous scale to assess their overall satisfaction with the treatment outcome. Aesthetic outcome was classified in three categories: 1. Match (difference less than 0.5 mm), 2. Deviation (difference from 0.5 to 1.5 mm) and 3. Mismatch (difference greater than 1.5 mm). The results showed that all the teeth survived without signs of root resorption and ankylosis, although endodontic treatment was performed in 70% of the teeth. Aesthetic appearance after the initial reshaping was classified as matched in all cases and in 80% of cases after 9 to 12.5 years. The study showed that the overall satisfaction of patients with the outcome of treatment was very high (VAS = 87.1). Transplantation of premolars to the position of incisors represents a safe method of treatment which gives highly predictable functional and aesthetic results. |

ROOT CANAL THERAPY BICUSPID |
| Abstract: |
Three-rooted maxillary first premolars do not occur usually, but their possibility always has to be considered. The buccal orifices of the root canals are not clearly visible. In spite of a good knowledge of tooth anatomy, clinical experience, and X-rays, the third canal is often overlooked. The incidence of maxillary first premolars with three roots, three canals and three foramina is about 4-6%. In this article 5 clinical endodontic cases of first maxillary premolars with three canals are presented. The first case presents endodontic treatment of the first right maxillary premolar for a prosthetic reason. All three canals were recognized and treated as documented by radiographs. The remaining cases were retreatment of the first maxillary premolars where third canals had remained unrecognized during previous endodontic procedures, resulting in failure of treatment. Retreatments were performed and results documented by radiographs. |

| Abstract: |
Autotransplantation of premolars to replace missing maxillary incisors in young patients can provide reestablishment of normal function and aesthetics. However, there is a need to assess function and aesthetic appearance of transplanted teeth in a long-term perspective. The objectives of the present study were to evaluate success of treatment and aesthetic results of transplanted premolars after 7.5 to 11.5 years of follow-up. The purpose was also to evaluate whether transplantation procedure can produce predictable functional and aesthetic results after a longer time of intraoral service. The material comprised 10 patients with transplanted teeth to the position of maxillary central incisors. At the time of transplantation patients were aged between 9 and 14 years (M = 12 years). All of them were treated at the Department of Paediatric Dentistry, School of Dental Medicine. After transplantation all teeth were splinted with a wire-composite splint for two weeks, and reshaped using composite after three months. The reshaped teeth were compared with contralateral incisors regarding morphology, colour and overall aestethics. Follow-up ranged from 7.5 to 11.5 years (average) years). The outcome of tooth transplantation wasassessed using clinical, radiographic and aesthetic criteria. The visual analog scale was submitted to the patients to assess their overall satisfaction with procedure outcome. The aesthetic outcome was placed into three categories: 1. Match (difference less than 0.5 mm), 2. Deviate (difference from 0.5 to 1.5 mm), and 3. Mismatch (difference more than 1.5 mm). The results showed that all teeth survived without signs of root resorption and ankylosis, although endodontic treatment was performed in 70 percent of teeth. Aesthetics after initial reshaping was scored as matched in all cases, and in 80 % after follow-up of 7.5 to 11.5 years. The study showed that overall patients’ satisfaction with treatment outcome was very high (VAS = 87.1). Transplantation of premolars to the incisors position represent a safe method that gives highly predictable functional and aesthetic results. |

| Abstract: |
Knowledge of the dynamics of growth and eruption of teeth during the period from mixed to permanent dentition is essential as the majority of malocclusion begins at this time, and requires prompt orthodontic treatment. The aim of this study was to determine the level of the position of tooth germs and their zones of resistance in relation to the occlusal plane, in order to determine potential differences between male and female subjects and to conclude whether differences exist in the level of the germs and order of eruption in the examined groups of teeth. The sample comprised 200 orthopantomograms (96 boys and 104 girls aged from 6 to 10 years) at the Department of Orthodontics School of Dental Medicine University of Zagreb. The shortest distance of the canine and both premolars to the occlusal plane was measured directly on the X-ray films. Based on the results of the study it can be concluded that in boys, in both jaws during the defined development phase, the premolar was nearest to the occlusal plane, followed by the second premolar and then the canine. In girls, in the upper jaw, the first premolar was the nearest to the occlusal plane, followed by the second premolar and then the canine, and in the lower jaw the premolar was first, followed by the canine and the second premolar. In both sexes the position of the corresponding teeth was symmetric in the same jaw, and an identical order of the teeth eruption can be expected. Examination of the differences in arithmetic means for all variables according to sex confirmed statistical significant differences for the canine, and other differences were incidental. |

BICUSPID TOOTH EXTRACTION ALVEOLECTOMY DENTAL PULP CAVITY + anatomy & histology |
| Abstract: |
Taurodontism represents morphological abnormality of the teeth followed by the enlargement of the elongation of the pulp chamber in vertical direction; and which is connected with: racial traits, some syndromes, or in most cases appears as the consequence of the increased number of X chromosomes. In the study is presented rare case of hypertaurodont maxillary second premolar and surgical admission during the extraction. Since the classical extraction was not possible because of the rooth mass and the alveol wideness, we did the alveotomia. |
