DENTAL OCCLUSION MAXILLOFACIAL DEVELOPMENT LONGITUDINAL STUDIES TOOTH, DECIDUOUS DENTITION, MIXED |
Abstract: |
The examination of the dynamics of the changes in sagittal, vertical and transversal occlusal relationship has been carried out on the sample of the 66 examinees of the both sexes. The children were examined for the first time at the age of 3.7 years, the again three times repeatedly (within a year) during the first period of the change of teeth. The occlusal changes were registered on the plaster models using the regular standard equipment. The results of the examination of the 4 gnathometric variables (class, overjet, overbite and the transversal occlusal relationship) have demonstrated the following: in 50% examinees the class remained unchanged; the total number of the examinees with class II as well as with uneven occlusal relationship, in the right and left quadrant have increased visibly; the early findings of class II have demonstrated very high stability; the inclination toward the increase of the overjet has been higher in the relation to the reduction; somewhat greater number has been recorded in the group on the overjet above 3 mm; overbite in the major part of the examinees has become deeper; the change from the open, tete a tete, minimal bite to the normal and deep bite has been recorded; the transversal occlusal relationship have remained unchanged in 60% of the cases; the frequency of the new transversal disarrangement in the mixed dentition has been three times higher in the relation to the earlier findings; also the cases of the spontaneous correction of the transversal disarrangement in the deciduous dentition have been recorded. |

Abstract: |
Use of particular cement depends on its advantageous and disadvantageous properties. Several cements for definite cementation and one for temporary cementation, most commonly used in fixed prosthetics, were studied. The amount of salivary zinc dissolved from cement was determined by the method of atomic absorption spectrophotometry on a Pye Unicam SP 9,800 instrument, using correction of nonspecific signals by means of a deuterium lamp. Evident differences were observed in resistance of particular cements to the action of saliva, as shown by the proportions of zinc dissolved from the cements and found in the saliva. |

Abstract: |
Synthograft (beta-tricalcium phosphate) is a bioresorptive ceramic material which stimulates osteogenesis after implantation into bone defects and disappears from the site of implantation. In this study, Synthograft was used as a filling in bone defects following apicotomy of teeth with extensive periapical and lateral bone defects along the tooth root involving more than 1/3 of the root, and when an extended periodontal fissure was present in addition. The study included 13 patients with one or more teeth involved. The tricalcium phosphate powder was mixed with patient's own blood and inserted into bone cavities. The patients were followed up during 12 months after surgery by clinical and radiographic control examinations. In all the 13 cases, clinical results were very good, i.e. healing of the wound proceeded without any signs of inflammation, whereas later in the course of follow-up no signs of reaction to the foreign material were observed. Preoperatively loose teeth had gradually become firm and after 12 months were within the limits of physiological motility. Roentgenograms revealed the bone cavities to have filled with newly formed bone, and the periodontal ligament, otherwise lost, was also restored. Results of this study showed the Synthograft implant to be well tolerated by recipients, thus it can be recommended as a filling in extensive bone periapical and lateral defects after tooth apicotomy. |

Abstract: |
Many authors consider that the contours and dimensions of TMJ continue to be reshaped and remodeled even after the period of growth and development is complete, in response to changing mechanical stresses under influence of aging, abrasion and the loss of the teeth. Therefore, the aim of this study was to find out if aging and the loss of teeth make any influence on TMJ. The sample consisted of 80 dry skulls and their mandibles. The following parameters were measured: 1A (AB) the distance from the lateral ending of petrotympanic fissure to the intersection of petrotympanic and petrosquamosus fissure, 1B (BC) the distances from the intersection of petrotympanic and petrosquamosus fissure to the most prominent part of the articular eminence, 1C (AC) the distance from the lateral ending of petrotympanic fissure to the most prominent part of articular eminence and 2 (h) the depth of the mandibular fossa. Measured values were analysed in connection with sex, age, the different percentage of the remaining teeth and the left or the right side. There was no significant difference at the probability level of 95%, nor for the left and the right side, neither for the different age groups, sex and the different percentage of the remaining teeth (p greater than 0.05). Still, it is obscure the existence and the changes in TMJ when the growth is completed. It is necessary to study this problem on the bigger sample and the new methods as CT and artroscopy could be helpful. |

GLASS IONOMER CEMENTS |
Abstract: |
Glass-ionomer cements represent a new type of dental materials widely clinically applied owing to their good adhesion to dental tissue, caries-protective effects, biocompatibility and simple handling. They are two-component materials commercially available in forms of powder or liquid. The two components are mixed manually or automatically in a vibrator to produce a compact mixture. In addition to chemical, light-polymerizing hybrid glass-ionomer cements are also available. A description is given of physical and chemical features of these materials, their classification and use in particular clinical cases. |

Abstract: |
The course of the endodontic treatment of periapical process in a patient with renal engraftment is described. Such a patient is under a constant cytostatic therapy suppressing the immune system, thus the risk of the endodontic treatment failure being higher, with the possibility of patient's health impairment. Preparation, premedication and performance of endodontic therapy applicable in patients at risk are described and explained. Consultations with respective medical professionals were necessary, pointing to the need of an interdisciplinary approach in such patients. |
