PERIODICALS BIBLIOMETRICS CITATION ANALYSIS SELF-CITATIONS |
| Abstract: |
Bibliometric analysis of the journal Acta stomatologica Croatica (ASCRO) was made for the period of 1966-2006. Purpose: The research was to determine a degree of communicability of the journal, i.e. the influence of the papers published in the journal on the other papers and scientists. Materials and Methods: Citation analysis was conducted on a specimen acquired by browsing the Web of Science (WoS) databases and the data were processed by descriptive statistics. Results: The 185 papers with a total of 257 citations were singled out by a search. Each of the cited papers has an average of 1,4 citations. If we know that a total of 1.273 papers have been published in the journal, each paper has been cited 0,2 times on average. An analysis of the errors has shown that in 50,2% of papers all the elements of the bibliographic record have been cited correctly and a total of 163 citation errors have been made. Most of the errors (65%) are present in the title of the journal. The highest number of citations per paper is 5. The highest number of citations per year is 28, in the year 1991. The division of the citations by age of the paper shows that a maximum of 9,3% citations has been accomplished in the 3rd year of publishing the paper, after which the number of citations has decreased. ASCRO has been cited in 65 journals, mostly (44,7%) in Coll. Antropol. A total of 60,7% self-citations has been registered and 21% of the citations have been quoted by foreign authors only. Conclusions: It is fi nally possible to determine that we should not be content with the present level of infl uence of ASCRO to the domestic and foreign scientifi c community. The analysis shows a relatively modest total number of citations, a large number of self-citation and a small share of the foreign authors' citations which doesn't contribute to the communicability of the journal on the worldwide level. Excellence needs to be set as a general goal. In order to achieve that, the level of quality of all of its segments needs to be elevated in a complex process of publishing a scientific journal, especially excellence of published papers. |

| Abstract: |
Objectives: To compare the leakage of two root canal sealers, Apexit Plus and GuttaFlow. Materials and Methods: For the purpose of the research, 26 single-rooted extracted permanent teeth were used. Root canals of all the samples were prepared using ProTaper rotary fi les. Teeth prepared and instrumented were divided into two groups of 10 teeth. The fi rst group was obturated using the technique of cold lateral condensation, with the use of gutta-percha points and Apexit Plus sealer. The second group was obturated with the GuttaFlow. Six samples were used as a control group. The leakage of root canal fi lling on samples was examined by the use of fl uid-transport model, 24h after the obturation and thermocycling. Results and Conclusion: Statistically analyzed results of the research have shown that GuttaFlow obturated signifi cantly better than Apexit Plus 24h after the obturation procedure and after the thermocycling (both comparisons: Kruskal-Wallis ANOVA, p<0,0002). In samples obturated with Apexit Plus root canal sealer, there was a statistically signifi cant difference in leakage 24h after the fi lling and after the thermocycling (p=0.011), which was insignifi cant for GuttaFlow (Friedman ANOVA, p=0.739). Under the conditions of this study, GuttaFlow provided a better seal than Apexit Plus. |

| Abstract: |
Objectives: The aim of this study was to determine physical properties of three different types of composite resins: Point 4 (microhybrid), Solitaire 2 (packable) and Definite (ormocer). Materials and Methods: In the physical section of this study, 10 samples for each of the following tests were prepared from each of the three restorative materials according to standard protocols: compressive strength test (ADA 27), diametral tensile strength test (ADA 27), fl exural strength test (ISO 4049) and depth of cure test (ISO 4049). The data were analyzed using Kruskal Wallis and Mann Whitney-U tests. Results: The compressive, diametral tensile strength, fl exural strength, depth of cure test values respectively of the materials were: Point 4 (202.49, 47.12, 93.09, 4.74); Solitaire 2 (248.92, 59.74, 92.97, 4.12); and Definite (174.73, 50.82, 103.15, 5.25). While signifi cant statistical differences were observed in the values of the compressive strength, diametral tensile strength and depth of cure tests (p<0.05), no signifi cant variance was found in the results of the fl exural strength test (p>0.05). Conclusion: According to the results of the compressive strength and diametral tensile strength tests, Solitaire 2 received the highest value, whereas Defi nite scored highest on the depth of cure test. |

ORAL HEALTH DMF INDEX TOOTH DEMINERALIZATION |
| Abstract: |
Objectives: To present the prevalence of dental caries, periodontal conditions, developmental defects of enamel and MIH in 12-year-olds in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BH). Methods: A survey was carried out in 8 cantons of the Federation of BH (FBH) and in Republic Srpska (RS) in 2004. The fi nal sample included 560 twelve yearolds. The parameters used to measure oral health status were: DMFT index, SiC index, presence of sealants, community periodontal index and developmental defects of enamel index (DDE). Treatment needs were assessed as well as molar incisor hypomineralizations (MIH). One dental team clinically examined all subjects in line with WHO methodology and criteria, using plane dental mirror, standard CPITN periodontal probe under natural light. Results: The average DMFT of 12-year-olds was 4.16 ± 2.92. On the average, 91% of the 12-year-olds was affected with dental caries. The SiC Index was 7.41 ± 3.31. Among examined children, 5.7% had at least one tooth with a fi ssure sealant. 43% of 12-year-olds had healthy periodontium. The prevalence of developmental defects of enamel among BH twelve-yearoldswas 32.80%. The MIH prevalence was 12.3%. The average number of affected teeth with MIH was 5.59. Conclusions: Oral health status in BH observed through DMTF index values and condition of periodontium of 12-year-olds is unsatisfactory. Community-based prevention and oral health promotion are necessary. |

Objectives: This in vitro experimental study evaluated the endogenous pH, titratable acidity and total soluble solids content (TSSC) of pediatric antitussive medicines presented as syrups. Materials and Methods: Seven medicines were evaluated by a random experiment with 3 repetitions for each sample. pH analysis was performed by potentiometry and buffering capacity was assessed by dilution of each medicine. Increments of 0.1 N KOH were titrated until neutrality was reached. TSSC readings were performed by Brix refractometry using the Abbé refractometer. Results: pH values ranged from 2.65 (Mucolin®) to 6.56 (Fluimucil®) and four medicines showed pH below the critical value of 5.5. The titratable acidity values ranged from 0.061 (Fluimucil®) to 0.467 (Ambroxmel®). Fluimucil® presented the lowest TSSC content (4.33%) and Mucofan® presented the highest TSSC content (53.41%). Conclusions: Many pediatric antitussives showed pH below the critical value, high titratable values and high sugar concentration, which may increase their cariogenic and erosive potentials in case of inadequate administration of these products to children. |

| Abstract: |
MTA has been proposed for various treatment alternatives due to its high biocompatibility. However delayed setting times may limit its use. Objectives: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of adding a setting accelerator 5% or 10% CaCl2 to MTA on the pH and calcium ion release of MTA (ProRoot MTA, Dentsply, Tulsa Dental, Tulsa, OK). Materials and Methods: MTA powder was mixed with sterile water with or without CaCl2 followed by measurement of pH and calcium ion release at baseline, 1, 3 and 24 hours with a pH meter ( Sentron 2001, Integrated Sensor Technology, Roden, Netherlands) and an atomic absorption spectrophotometer (Perkin- Elmer 1100 B, Weiterstadt, Germany). Results: 10% CaCl2 added specimens revealed immediate elevation in pH which continued during all time intervals(p<0.01). The highest calcium release was also observed in groups with CaCl2. Conclusion: The results of this study suggest that CaCl2 as a setting accelerator enhances the biological properties of mineral trioxide aggregate by increasing pH and calcium ion release. |

DENTURE, OVERLAY DENTAL IMPLANTS |
| Abstract: |
Dental implants of smaller diameter have been used for almost 20 years, but recently, dental manufacturers have presented mini dental implants (MDIs) with diameter of only 1.8-2.4 mm. These implants allow very suitable prosthetic solutions within the range of their indication, due to good osseointegration success rates, simple surgical technique and immediate loading possibility. The case presents implantation of four Sendax type (IMTEC, Ardmore, Oklahoma, USA) MDIs in mental region, in order to obtain better retention and stability of the complete denture, and to improve function and phonation. The use of those implants, among afore mentioned preferences, is also very cost effective, so this implantological possibility should be taken into consideration during prosthetic treatment planning of the edentulous mandible. |

AMELOBLASTOMA ODONTOGENIC TUMORS |
| Abstract: |
The purpose of this article is to describe a rare case of Ameloblastic Fibroma (AF) with atypical localization with long term follow-up period. The AF is a relatively rare benign mixed odontogenic tumour, which is extremely uncommon in the anterior maxillary region. It represents only 1-2% of all odontogenic tumors and males are slightly more frequently affected than females. It presents more frequently in the mandible than maxilla. The majority of AF’s are found in the posterior area of the mandible and painless, slow growing and usually asymptomatic but eventually expand the jaw. A 3 year-old girl with a chief complaint of painless swelling on the right maxillar area. Radiological evaluation revealed a well-circumscribed large lesion. The lesion was diagnosed as AF according to the histopathological fi ndings. She was treated by enucleation with no recurrence observed after a follow-up period of 5 years. After fi ve years, radiographs showed that the surgical defect had fi lled with new bone. A conservative approach, including enucleation and mechanical curettage of the surrounding tissue appeared to be successful for the patient. Although recurrence of AF is rare, regular reviews to monitor growth and development are required for the high potential of recurrence rates. |
